I have an obsession with moving to the country. I need to end it. I get myself completely worked up and stressed out and in the end always decide to stay put. So why do I do it??? Who know.
I have been putting off some major projects around the house lately because I didn’t want to start anything just in case we did decide to move…my stomach hurts just talking about it.
I don’t know why I even think about moving…I love this house!! A realtor came over and walked through it with us and sold us on staying put.
One of the rooms that I love the most is my dining room. It doesn’t always get used for dining purposes, but the space is awesome. We have been in our house eight years and how done some extensive remodeling on our main floor. The house was new when we moved but the layout we found didn’t quite work.
I searched high and low for a picture of the dining room before and this is the only one that I could scrounge up. (Had to scan it to get in on here
)
OMG, I am so missing those days. Two little girls with complete bedhead eating their cereal and probably watching cartoons. Okay, my point is, you have to check out the background of this picture.
See the wall that is dividing these two rooms?? There used to be a small room at the front of the house that we used as a tv room…not really sure what it was really for. Then we had a small four seater dining room table in the kitchen. When baby number 3 came along a four seater no longer worked for us.
So the wall came down…a few new windows, a new floor, and a built in went in. Here are the results.
This room is directly connected to the kitchen. It works perfectly to have a large family gatherings or to just have friends over to play cards.
The built- ins work great to display books and my collection of ironstone pitchers. You will always find my dog laying on the window watching the neighborhood.
After I cam home from my trip to Minneapolis I exchanged my old brown curtains with some new lighter curtains from IKEA. I also raised the curtain rod up to almost ceiling level. I love super long curtains but decided to hem these to floor level so they weren’t always looking dirty at the bottom. (My floors are not always clean.)
Before..
After…
A few months ago, I replaced a lonely looking, very dark picture with my the Deer art that I made (click here to see how I did it). See that art way over on the right wall…
Now it looks like this.
And, since it is Spring I had to update my table centerpiece. Nothing says Spring like moss and grapevines.
Sometimes when you almost lose something is when you start to appreciate it more. I am not going anywhere anytime soon. I love this dining room and I love this house!

ReplyDeleteMaggie, what a great redo! I love the built-ins and the new curtains make it look so bright and airy! I really like your table centerpiece...the moss and grapevines in the boxes....thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic space. I love the table! THanks for sharing with the newbie party.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so glad you came to your senses... lol. That is an excellent change. Makes it more homier and lighter with the curtain change too. You're right, sometimes we don't realize what we have. You've done good :o) Those cute lil red heads make for an adorable adornment to your home as well :)

What a wonderful change! I love the built-ins and the colors you picked. (Visiting via Wicked Awesome Wednesday.)
ReplyDeleteSo Beautiful. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so classy now! Not that the bedhead didn't look classy ;) It just looks like the dining room grew up a bit with the kids. We're having a UFO DYI challenge on my blog...love for you to join if you have some project you've started and haven't quite finished http://addhousewife.com
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great job! I found you on some link (not sure!). But glad I did. Your dining room looks sooo inviting. I must know--what color yellow is that on your dining room walls? I've been trying to hunt down the perfect yellow, but haven't quite nailed it! My kitchen yellow looks more like "school bus" yellow. HAHAHA. (To see it, check out my blog and click on the link "My Kitchen."). :)

It looks great. I am always thinking I want to move every time we go on vacation: we went to Hawaii last month, and I've been obssessing I wish I lived there. But it's a wildly unrealistic thought, ain't gonna happen. I am glad I read your post to jolt me back into reality. We often want what we "can't" have... Love where you Live. I am going to Love my house now, because we are kinda "stuck" here till the kids graduate. And its a fine place to be stuck. Thanks for the little kick in the head, I needed that. BTW Love the Blog, I am a new follower.
ReplyDeleteThe room looks fantastic! It looks like it should be in a magazine! :)

ReplyDeleteNice job Hell on Heels Maggie! Your buck looks perfect in this room. Love the long table.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so bright and crisp and inviting! That deer art is still my favorite thing since Oreos:) Our kitchen and small dining room are connected by a small wall too and it would make SO much sense to knock it down...I am too afraid though:)
ReplyDeleteI found your dining room by looking at your house number planters (which I love). I really love that table of yours and the room "after" pictures are amazing! What a difference. Yeah, I'd find a little corner and just live in that room, haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm hosting a linky party for "favorite rooms" and think yours would be perfect. I'd love for you to join us. Here's the link:

I love your built ins and the cute pitcher collection you have. I have a thing for white pitchers too...
ReplyDeleteQuite a big change in this space! The builtins are so nice and I love the dispay in them. The lighter curtains look so much better. We just moved in here 18 months ago and we toy with the idea of moving. Grass is always greener I guess but we know that's usually not true. And most kids DON'T want to move away from the house they have grown up in so that should help you feel better about staying put too.

ReplyDeleteFor years I didn't do much to my house other than painting because I thought we'd move--we never did. Now 11 years later I'm treating our house like a permanent home and not a temporary residence. I feel like I'm getting reacquainted with it. (Newest follower)
